The Genki textbooks are english and japanese bilingual books. The method is very complete and starts with hiragana and katakana learning. It covers every skills you need to learn progressively japanese: writing, reading, listening and speaking.
They are designed for japanese beginners who are studying at schools, universties or by their own.

Genki elementary japanese consists of 23 lessons divided into two volumes: Genki I and Genki II
In Genki I you will study lesson 1 to 12 + 1CD.
Each lesson requires about 9 hours of study. A lesson is structured into 2 parts:
1. Dialogue and Grammar in which you will focus on listening, speaking, vocabulary and grammar points explanations. This reprensents about 6 hours of work.
2. Reading and writing. In this part you will learn hiragana, katakana, kanji writing and reading in context and comprehension. This part takes about 3 hours of work.
The Genki I and II textbooks cover elementary grammar points, hiragana, katakana, 317 kanji and about 1700 vocabulary words.
This complete course represents about 200 hours of japanese language study and prepare for the level N4 of the Japanese Language Proficiency Test.
